Te Tira Ahu Pae is your students’ association at Massey University, run by students, for students!
We provide both representation and student services to Massey University students ensuring equivalent and equitable services are delivered to everyone. We are a registered charity and independent from the University.
The services we delivered include:
We are a single association at Massey University's four campuses in Pāmamao – Distance, Ōtehā - Auckland, Manawatū - Palmerston North and Pukeahu - Wellington.
Our Structure
The Board
Te Tira Ahu Pae is led by our Board, which is made up of our Presidents and several Student Reps from various cohorts, to ensure the voices of all Massey University tauira are heard and represented. The Board holds governance responsibility, including strategic direction, oversight and compliance.
The Presidents
Te Tira Ahu Pae has a tripartite leadership, with the General/Distance President, Manawhakahaere (Māori President), and Pasifika President. All the Presidents have equal oversight and work in partnership to lead the Student Representatives. Each President is self-determined to lead their cohorts, ensuring cultural practices are embedded throughout their work and within the Student Reps. The Tripartite leadership model ensures Māori and Pasifika tauira are valued as equal, to ensure equity between all the cohorts.
Student Representatives
We have a team of Student Reps that represent each of our campuses and cohorts. Their role is to consult with students and to act as their voice, advocating for student issues and feeding these back to the University.
Student Reps are paid contractors of Te Tira Ahu Pae. The team changes each year with our Elections, with some Rep roles going through an appointment process, and some Rep roles going through an election process. You can learn more about our Representation Structure and Elections process on our Student Representation Structure page.
Operations Staff
Our dedicated operations staff run the services that Te Tira Ahu Pae provides, including events, advocacy, clubs and student media. They work to ensure you have a positive and fun experience during your time at University, as well as to support you in the not-so-fun times — ensuring you have access to advocacy and advice.
Our Funding
Te Tira Ahu Pae is funded by the Student Services Fee (SSF). The SSF is a compulsory non-tuition fee, based on the number of credits you are enrolled in. The SSF goes to Massey University, to fund student services including career support, student development, health & counselling, sport & recreation, student achievement, and of course, Te Tira Ahu Pae.
While we are contracted and funded through Massey University, our services are run independently. This means that the support and advice we provide will always be in your best interest as a student, not the University’s. This is particularly important for our Advocacy services, which are confidential and exist as a safe environment for you to understand your rights and options.
